Children and Young People’s ADHD NHS Services

Understanding your Right to Choose

If a child or adolescent lives in England, they and their carers have the legal right to choose who provides NHS mental health care, including ADHD assessments for children and young people from age 6 to 17. This means they or their carers can ask their GP to refer them to a provider like Medinet Minds, giving you access to faster, high-quality ADHD assessments at no cost to you.

Why use Right to Choose?

Getting an ADHD assessment through the NHS can come with a long wait time – often lasting over a year. By using your Right to Choose, your children or adolescent can be referred to an NHS-approved provider, like Medinet Minds, and get their assessment within weeks. They will still receive NHS-funded care, but with quicker access and support from a trusted, independent team.

Who is eligible for Right to Choose?

Children and adolescents are eligible if:

  • They live in England
  • They are registered with a GP in England
  • Their GP agrees that a referral for ADHD is appropriate
  • They are not already under the care of a local NHS mental health team for the same issue

If you’re unsure, speak to your GP or contact us – we’re happy to help guide you through the process.

How to get started

Getting referred to Medinet Minds under Right to Choose is simple.

To get a remote ADHD assessment with Medinet Minds, a child or adolescent will need to get a referral from their GP.
Through the right to choose scheme, we make the process straightforward and provide support every step of the way.

step 1 Speak to your GP

Request a referral to Medinet Minds, formally known as HealthHarmonie Minds under the NHS right to Choose.

step 2 Get referred

Your GP will send the referral to Medinet Minds.

step 3 Begin your journey

Once the referral is processed, the parents or carers of the child will be contacted or young person contacted directly (if aged over 16) to schedule the assessment.

We’ll provide all the details your GP needs to make this process as smooth as possible.

EDIT: I recommend politely calling them or emailing them if you have any issues. The service is amazing though you may need to just double check on them as I feel like they forgot to book a tritation appointment as once I asked, it was very quick. I do believe the staff are trying their best with the amount of work from speaking to them. I wish I could rate this service higher because I had a fantastic experience with assessment A & B and got a detailed report. It has been over 4 weeks since that point and I have heard nothing back for starting medication? This was a rediagnosis so I'm familiar with how life-changing medication can be so it's incredibly frustrating that they've suddenly dropped the ball at this point in the process. I understand that they must be busy but I am worried if I'm even on the list for starting due to nothing being booked and zero communication. I'm willing to change this rating if I hear back but until then, it's a mixed service.
